Privacy
The short version: your audio never leaves your Mac, we send only the text needed to help you, and nothing is used to train AI models.
Last updated 7 October 2026
This policy explains what Aside ("we") collects when you use the Aside app and asidehq.app, why, and the choices you have.
What stays on your Mac
- Audio. Recordings are stored on your Mac and transcribed there by an on-device speech model. We never receive audio.
- Transcripts and notes. Stored on your Mac. They are only sent to us in the limited cases below.
Voices
To tell speakers apart and recognise people you have named before, Aside keeps a voiceprint for each of them: a short list of numbers describing how they sound. Voiceprints are biometric data, so they are made on your Mac, stored only in a file next to your meetings, and never sent to us or anyone else. Aside never names someone from their voice until you have confirmed them yourself on earlier calls, and you can turn this off or forget every saved voice in Settings → General.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name, email address and profile picture from Google when you sign in.
- Calendar events. Read-only access to event titles, times, descriptions, links and attendees, so Aside can prepare for your meetings. We never create, change or delete events.
- Plan material. Files, screenshots and text you add to a meeting plan.
- Meeting text for AI features. To build a plan, give live guidance or write a summary, Aside sends the relevant text (your plan and a recent stretch of transcript) to our servers and on to our AI providers.
- Billing. Handled by Stripe. We see your plan and billing status, never your full card number.
- Diagnostics. Crash reports and basic usage counts, with no meeting content. You can turn these off in Settings.
How we use it
Only to run Aside for you: preparing plans, live guidance, summaries, search across your meetings, billing and support. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or use your content to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.
Google user data
Aside's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Calendar data is used only to show and prepare your meetings inside Aside. People do not read it unless you ask us to for support, or the law requires it.
Who processes data for us
Vercel hosts the site and the small server the app talks to. Text for AI features goes from there to OpenRouter, which passes it to a model host: Anthropic, or Anthropic's models on Google Cloud, Amazon Bedrock or Microsoft Azure, for plans and summaries, and a host of the DeepSeek model for live guidance. We only allow hosts that don't train on or sell what they receive. Stripe handles payments.
How long we keep it
Our server doesn't store the text sent for AI features: it passes it to the model and keeps nothing. The hosts above may keep it briefly under their own policies, for example to monitor abuse. Recordings, transcripts and notes stay on your Mac. Account and billing records are kept while your account is open and as long as the law requires after. Delete your account in Settings and we remove the rest within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
You can export or delete your data, disconnect Google at any time from Settings or your Google account, and turn off AI features per meeting. Depending on where you live, including the UK, EU and California, you also have rights to access, correct, delete and object to processing. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.
Recording other people
You are responsible for getting consent from the people you record where the law requires it. Aside reminds you at the start of each call.
